The Studio

The focus of our work is on the regeneration of the Ōtākaro Avon River Green Spine and specifically on vital access points — or “landings”– and surrounding stopbanks that follow the spirit of those proposed by Council staff and the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor Regeneration Plan, considering the near and long-term impacts of the river’s rising waters. Our studio’s guiding principle is Tiaki Over Time. Tiaki translates to care in Te Reo Māori and relates to the traditional and contemporary practice of guardianship and stewardship over the land and all of its occupants. Applying this concept of care means designing the landings and landscape with a comprehensive approach, encouraging natural processes to regenerate the river ecologically and for changing human use, enjoyment and meaning, for now and over time.
